The Ben Nevis distillery was founded in 1825. Its one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland.  Its situated at the base of the highest hill in Scotland, a good destination for a daytrip from Onich

Coran Ferry

The Coran ferry provides a regular link for the communities of Fort William, Ardgour, Sunart, Ardnamurchan, Moidart, Morar, Morvern and the Isle of Mull.

Glencoe Mountain Resort

Glenfinnan Viaduct


Glenfinnan sits at the head of Loch Shiel. The Jacobite Steam Train runs to Fort William and Mallaig in summer months with regular trains available the rest of the year. The Glenfinnan viaduct gained new visitors thanks to the filming of Harry Potter and the Chambers of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban which took place in this area with the Hogwarts Express calling at Glenfinnan.

The Lochaber Yacht club welcomes you to its fun, friendly, family sailing club in Fort William, a short distance from Onich. Sailing April to September every year. A recognised RYA teaching establishment.

Cruises on Loch Linnhe are a  wonderful opportunity to see Scottish wildlife and learn about history and culture.  Cruise Loch Linhe run year round and are dog-friendly. Please get in touch in advance with any mobility issues to discuss best options with the team.

Get in touch to make a purchase of a special piece to remember your time in the Highlands. A handcrafted piece of wood makes a wonderful gift to take home whilst supporting the staff and volunteers in Lochaber.

Special Events

Highland Games

Highland Games take place throughout Scotland and often have a local focus with four Highland Games taking place in the Highlands: Glenfinnan Gathering, Invergarry Highland Games, Arisaig Highland Games and Morar Highland Games. From Caber tossing, highland dancing, athletic events to pipes and drums, the Games are a popular visitor attraction set in the scenery of Scotland.

Places to Eat

The Lochside Bar and Restaruant

Situated in Onich with spectacular views of Loch Linnhe, the Onich Hotel's bar and restaurant offers local and international cuisine. From quick snacks to three course meals, the restuarant uses fresh, fine, organic produce prepared by in-house chefs.

Moss, Restaurant

A new restaurant, Moss welcomes you to Ballachuilish, around 10 minutes by car from Onich. Seasonal plates servied in a place where 'every dish tells a tale of the people we know and the places we have been'. 

Seafood Cafe

A daytrip out to the Seafood Cafe at Loch Leven is a popular destination for those visiting the West Highlands. Now bookable online, advance booking is highly recommended. Keep an eye on social media channels for updates.

Burgers

Local to Onich are the delicious Yum Yum burgers. Situated 2 miles south of Inchree, by the A82 roadside in the grounds of the Loch on the Lodge Hotel.  Snack van in beautiful surroundings, providing hot, tasty food with high quality meats. There are picnic tables to enjoy the view while you eat. Find them on social media for updates.

The Highlands has a fantastic range of wildlife from red squirrels, deer, sea birds, seals, beavers, Scottish Wildcat, dolphins and a range of seabirds from Capercailie and the Black Grouse and of course, the well-loved  Highland Cows.

Nature and Scenery

Scotland has a wealth of beautiful landscapes to explore. Onich is a wonderful base to explore many stunning locations. Just a short distance to Glencoe by car, with its dramatic hills and glens, and minutes walk from beautiful Loch Linnhe , a sea loch with fantastic views. Take a trip on the Coran ferry accross the Coran narrows.

Stargazing

Scotland has some of the best dark skies in Europe to make the most of Stargazing. Clear skies in Onich can result in some breathtaking views of the night sky. You might even be lucky enough to see the 'Mirrie Dancers', also known as the Aurora.

The West Highlands has a fantastic tradition of live music. A number of pubs, hotels and clubs in Fort William feature Live Music and pipe bands, wind bands and orchestral events take place throughout the year.

Self-Catering, Glenrigh House

Massacre of Glencoe is 11 km from the chalet, while West Highland Museum is 17 km from the property. The nearest airport is Oban Airport, 45 km from Dalrigh Pod.

Getting to Onich

Onich can be reached easily by car and bus as well as train via Fort William. Enjoy the stunning scenery through the West Highlands. The journey takes around 2.5 hours by car from Glasgow and 3 hours by car from Edinburgh. For international travellers there are several airports that you can fly into and book a rental car for the onward journey to Onich. Flights to Glasgow and Edinburgh also allow for onward travel to Onich via bus and train.

Glasgow to Onich

Travel on bus via Glasgow's Buchanan Street Bus Station to Fort William, which stops in Onich. You can also take a train from Glasgow Queen Street Railway Station to Fort William Railway Station and make use of local transport for the short distance to Onich.

Edinburgh to Onich

Travel on bus via Edinburgh's Bus Station to Fort William which stops in Onich. You can also travel by train from Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station to Fort William Railway Station, using local transport to cover the short distance to Onich.
